PICHA's #BalanceForBetter Series

CELEBRATING YOUNG WOMEN CAPTURING AFRICA THROUGH THEIR LENS

It’s International Women’s Day 2019 – a day to honour and celebrate the achievements of women globally each year. The theme for 2019 is #BalanceForBetter – a campaign advocating for a gender-balanced environment in every sector, calling for collective action and shared responsibility by all to accelerate gender balance.

Women are woefully underrepresented in the creative sector on the continent. For us at PICHA, this is the time of the year to shine the spotlight on women in the creative industry in Africa and highlight their achievements, challenges and suggestions to increase gender representation. Together we can make a better and more diverse creative industry.

As part of our contribution to #BalanceForBetter, we speak to two Ghanaian women blazing the trail and redefining the visual landscape in their own rights in the male-dominated creative industry. Meet rising photographer and filmmaker, Matilda Dogbatsey of (@kafuipraise) and burgeoning cinematographer StephanieIbrahim of (@illucreatemultimedia).
